The 20th century has seen a number of important developments in coffee:
1903 - Decaffeinated coffee (German coffee importer-Ludwig Roselius; hence Sanka.)
1909 - Soluble Coffee - Japanese-American chemist, Satori Kato. His product Red E Coffee.
1923 - Sanka introduced into the United States.
1938 - Freeze-dried coffee. Nescafe developed and introduced in Switzerland.
1946 - Modern-day espresso machine perfected by Achilles Gaggia in Italy.
1950 - Gaggia opened the first modern day coffee bar in London.
1960 - First pump driven espresso produced by Faema.
1970's - Introduction of liquid concentrate coffee.
New developments will always be there. We see the coffee shops with all the flavored coffees available. People drinking beverages that are normally served hot are now drinking the same beverage over ice. Who knows what the future holds but one thing is for sure, there will be additions to current coffee beverages and coffee beverages yet unheard of.
