ICED TEA
Iced tea is an American beverage. Americans drink an astounding 35 billion gallons of iced tea a year, roughly 7 gallons per person, and still growing. Nearly 80% of all tea consumed in the United States is consumed over ice. Iced tea was officially created in 1904 at the World's Fair in St. Louis and has become as "American as apple pie".
With Americans becoming more health-conscious, iced tea is becoming the lunch-time beverage-of-choice. Besides being a refreshing and relaxing beverage, iced tea is fat-free, contains no calories or cholesterol, and can be caffeine-free. Tea is also believed to have antioxidants often found in fruits and vegetables. For the Queen of England tea-time is every day. Americans have adopted the same attitude.
Liquid tea concentrates have been available for 20+ years. Today's liquid tea concentrates can easily compete in color and flavor with the brewed tea market. Concentrates are available with lemon, sweetened without lemon, non-sweetened without lemon, plus numerous fruit flavors - A TEA FOR EVERY TASTE.
Foodservice continues to move in the direction of fast, faster, fastest. Tea concentrates offer the fastest and freshest preparation of a glass/pitcher of iced tea. Most of the early tea concentrates were of questionable quality. Liquid tea concentrates establish the quality of color and flavor, challenging the brewed tea market. Iced tea is arguably the most profitable item on the menu. At a food cost percentage of 2.4 including ice, more attention is being paid to iced tea as a menu item.
Post-mix tea concentrates provide stability, quality and freshness. The glass/pitcher of iced tea is made at the moment it is required by your customer. A fresh, flavorful glass of iced tea is served every time, never a warm, bitter, stale glass caused by holding.
BENEFITS OF POST-MIX TEA:
1. COST SAVINGS - No stale tea to discard. Minimum amount of labor to put concentrate in dispenser and clean equipment. Far less energy consumption.
2. CONSISTENCY - Exact mixing of tea and water, consistent serving temperature. No weak tea due to warm brewed tea causing ice to melt.
3. CONVENIENCE - Tea always ready when needed. No need to brew large quantities of tea and store or try to brew during rush periods
4. SHELF STABLE - Tea concentrates are shelf stable for up to 3 months after being opened.
